My Picks for Fighting Dry Skin This Winter

By Hayley Kim, BA, RN

The temperature is nose-diving. The sun is setting earlier (still need that SPF!) and the weather is getting crisper. We depend on our winter gear to protect us with warmth, but our skin is also in need of dire help. Dry skin is inevitable during the winter months. As the humidity level drops and the indoor heat blasts, the water in our skin evaporates more quickly. Luckily for you, CompleteSkinMD provides some of the best moisturizers to fight back against this season of parched, flaking skin. Listed below are my favorite picks!

Lifeline Recovery Night Serum – A regular to our office? Lifeline is most likely sitting on your vanity. As one of Dr. Hale and Dr. Karen’s most recommended products, this anti-aging serum works with the body’s natural healing cycle to rejuvenate the skin at night. Due to its make-up of peptides, and stem cells derived from non-embryonic human stem cells, Lifeline is clinically proven to reduce fine lines and wrinkles. Say hello to younger looking skin!

Initially the serum appears too thick to be a serum. When blended, it becomes a light consistency that easily absorbs into the skin. And because of its significant hydrating ability, Lifeline shortened my own routine to one that is quick and efficient. RetinA, a duo acne and wrinkle fighting medication, which our physicians recommend to many patients, can be quite drying and irritating to the skin. I previously applied two moisturizers over RetinA and achieved minimal hydration. Lifeline not only eliminates this problem, but it acts as a double shot of youthfulness to synergize with RetinA.

SkinCeuticals CE Ferulic  - Unlike moisturizers and sunscreens, antioxidants offer environmental protection by neutralizing free radical damage within the skin. This powerful blend of antioxidants -vitamins C & E and ferulic acid - provides that protection while retaining moisture balance and improving the appearance of dry skin. Ferulic acid also enhances the effectiveness of vitamins C & E to brighten complexion and hydrate the skin, respectively.

The product is travel friendly and comes with a dropper, providing a hygienic application with every use. I apply CE Ferulic and then an SPF as part of my daily morning routine. The combination of the two guarantees a solid shield against the sun's UV rays and its permanent damage.

SkinMedica HA5 Rejuvenating Hydrator  - Hyaluronic acid (HA), the body's natural "water loving" substance, retains moisture to the skin. With age, the body's HA decreases, resulting in less hydrated and wrinkled skin. HA cosmetic fillers have been a promising solution.

Thankfully, SkinMedica has created this wallet-friendly "bottle of filler" as a great complement to in-office fillers. HA5 is made up of five hyaluronic acids that support skin's natural ability to replenish its own hyaluronic acid. Just a pump of this serum on my face creates a smooth, radiant appearance. I truly adore this product because it never fails to solve the dry spots on my face. For that reason, I give HA5 two plump thumbs up.
